Sometime ago, Rwanda formally accused
senior French officials of involvement in the 1994 genocide
and called for the French war criminals to be put on trial.
Among those named in a report by a
Rwandan investigation commission were former French Prime
Minister Dominique de Villepin, former foreign minister
Alain Juppe and late President Francois Mitterrand.
Kigali has previously accused Paris
of covering up its role in training troops and militia
who carried out massacres that killed some 800,000 people,
and of propping up the ethnic Hutu leaders who orchestrated
The latest allegations from Kigali
came with the publication of the report by an independent
Rwandan commission set up to investigate France's role
in the bloodshed.
"The French support was of a political,
military, diplomatic and logistic nature," the report
"Considering the gravity of the
alleged facts, the Rwandan government asks competent authorities
to undertake all necessary actions to bring the accused
French political and military leaders to answer for their
acts before justice."

was aware of preparations for the genocide, contributed
to planning the massacres and actively took part in the
A German-born financial expert has
accused the French government of secretly funding a genocidal
movement in Rwanda.
Speaking in front of an investigative
commission into the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, private insurance
broker Martin Marschner alleged that France used social
security funds to arm those behind the genocide.
Marschner alleged that he became aware
of the funding effort when he was investigating some of
his clients' missing funds.
"When I made investigations, I
later established that the money was used to finance the
flow of arms into Rwanda as well as facilitate the French
secret services," he said. Marschner alleged that
new French President Nicholas Sarkozy was aware of the
1994 illegal dealings in his capacity as budget minister,
the Times said.
