Buddhas in Water

Sansu (眉山三苏乡) in Sichuan Province was one of the regions hit by the deadly earthquake last May, and a reservoir was severely damaged in the disaster that caused water leaking.

One year after the quake on a day in July, a peasant from Chengou Village (陈沟村) passed the reservoir on his daily trip to his farmland, and was greatly shocked when he noticed over a thousand Buddha images appearing on the rock faces previously submerged under water.

After examination by experts, the rock carvings are found to be created during the Tang Dynasty (618–906) more than a thousand years ago.
